Tom
Regenski, President of the United Way of Pike County was very pleased
to present Mike Donlon and Jim Lariviere of Habitat for Humanity with a
check for $6,000.00. HFH is dedicated to eliminating poverty housing
and building homes for families in need. Homes are built at cost
and no interest loans are offered. Homeowners will have a mortgage with
Habitat for the cost of materials and paid contractors. The new
homeowner also puts sweat equity into their new home on the site at a
minimum of 200 hours during the construction process. This is the
17th home that Habitat has built for families here in Pike County.
Regenski
made a visit to the construction site of the newest home in the Sunrise
Lake Community in Milford. “Wow, to see all of the volunteers out here
working on this home for a family in need is incredible. It has got to
be 95 degrees today with absolutely no breeze. Habitat for Humanity and
their volunteers have a level of commitment to the community that is
absolutely AMAZING! Our United Way contributors and volunteers, realize
the need to rise to the challenge and make a difference in life where
it is needed most. This is what we mean by Living United and we thank
our community champions and partners for their support. ” Said Tom
Regenski, UWPC President.
“HFH exists through the extraordinary
efforts of its volunteers and generosity of those individuals and
organizations who donate money and/or materials. “Nothing is as
worthwhile as seeing a family take ownership of a home and begin a
better life,” said Mike Donlon of Habitat for Humanity. He adds
that “The monies from the United Way are invaluable from the start of
the building process to the final moment when the family moves in to
their new home. I would like to thank the United Way for their
commitment to the community.” said Mike Donlon of Habitat for Humanity.
Additional information may be found on the web site hfhpc@ptd.net or by phoning 570-828-1623. To volunteer, contact Mike Donlon at volunteer@hfhpc.org.
Volunteers are needed in many areas – from working at the site to
fundraising, publicity and other special projects. As Mike said,
“you won’t regret it!” For more information about the United Way

Volunteers
for a day at Habitat for Humanity of Pike County stop for a picture in
front of the most recent House #17. As part of the partner agreement, a
new homeowner and their friends must work a minimum of 200 hours prior
to moving in. This day was spent applying sheathing on the outside
walls. There were a few blisters but more than enough fun to go around.
An October move in date is planned. Applications for House # 18 are now
underway. Please
contact the Habitat for Humanity of Pike County at 570-828-1623 or hfhpc@ptd.net to apply for a house, make a donation or see how you can help us help your neighbors, right here in Pike County. |
