The
United Way of Pike County and the Lords Valley Rotary Club in
partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Pike County created the
revolving ramp fund several years ago to help people in need. The
program is to provide a family in need with a ramp and give the family
the ability to pay the fund back over time. The primary goal of this
fund was to help families with disabilities and/or elderly in need of a
ramp to continue to live an active lifestyle.
The dedicated
volunteers of the Pike County Habitat for Humanity built this 32-foot
ramp for John and Janet Flaherty of Birchwood Lakes in Dingmans Ferry.
“Having a ramp can be such a blessing to families, it allows them the
freedom to get out and be active while ensuring their safety and
security when accessing their home. I am proud to be part of two
organizations that are committed to giving back to the community and
enriching the lives of others.” Stated Mike Donlon, UWPC Board Member
and Habitat for Humanity Volunteer.

Habitat for Humanity Building Freedom One Ramp at a Time

Left

Lariviere, Ed Heines and the ramp owner Elizabeth Trebony.
Habitat
for Humanity of Pike County just completed a wheelchair ramp for
Elizabeth Trebony. A ramp seems like
a small thing but it brings freedom to those that need them. This
ramp will allow Elizabeth to leave her house unassisted for the first
time in almost a year. The Pike County Community Ramp Fund was
established by the Habitat for Humanity of Pike County, United Way of
Pike County, Lords Valley
Rotary Club and a local anonymous donor as a way to get wheelchair
ramps to people who need. People who get a ramp
promise to pay the fund back, as best they can, for the materials only
so there will always be
enough money in the fund for the next person in need. The
labor is always provided by volunteers at no cost. Please
contact the Habitat for Humanity of Pike County at 570-828-1623 or hfhpc@ptd.net to make a donation or see how you can help us help your neighbors, right here in Pike County. |
