Pike Habitat for
Humanity Breaks Ground on House

recipients of the new Habitat house at the ground-breaking ceremony. |
By Cheryl Mitchell, The News Eagle
Dingman, Pa. - On Saturday, April 11, the Pike Habitat for Humanity
broke ground for their 14th house project.
Despite
the rainy weather, there was a large turnout to witness the ceremony
hosted by President, Pastor Nielsen. Pastor Nielsen welcomed and
thanked everyone for coming and explained details about the upcoming
project. He welcomed the Cardona Family, Cathy, Marisol, and Megan, the
recipients of the new house project. Cathy Cardona thanked everyone for
making her dream possible before grabbing a shovel with her daughters
to begin the ground-breaking ceremony.
Construction will begin
on Monday with an expected completion date sometime in the early fall.
The families are expected to work on their homes and maintain a Habitat
mortgage. Many contributors help make this project possible.
Delaware Township waives all permit fees for the houses built in their
area. This is a savings of about $800. per project.
The
Habitat relies on donations, such as these, to complete these
projects. Refreshments were served so all could meet and
greet
the newest Habitat family. Habitat presently has lots available for
building, and is accepting applications for homeowners now.
For more information please visit www.hfhpc.org
for application information. This is a great way to volunteer and make
a difference in our community. Habitat is always looking for volunteers
to help with their projects.
Editor’s note: Hunter Newman is a Delaware Valley High School student.

Why Not Put
that Old Car to New Use?
While
many of us are taking advantage of the winter weather to sort through
and clean out what we have inside the house, just as important is to
take a look outside. Do you have an old car, truck, boat,
motorcycle or RV that is taking up space outside that might be put to
better use? Habitat for Humanity, a nonprofit, ecumenical,
Christian Housing Ministry, will travel to your home and remove this
equipment for you. By donating the vehicle, you will help
your
local Habitat for Humanity build houses for families in need of decent
affordable shelter. In return, you will be rid of your unwanted vehicle
AND you may be eligible for a tax deduction if you itemize. Consult the
IRS or your tax advisor for details. Please call
1-877-277-4344
or visit www.carsforhomes.org
for additional information. It can be easier than you think to clear
out that garage or to clean up the lawn!
Habitat
for Humanity is one of the many nonprofit organizations the United Way

races, and religions to give them hope for a better future.
